The Philippines is rich with a wide variety of traditional events, often called “fiestas”. These are celebrations are used as a way to give thanks and praise to certain people such as saints, Mary Our Mother, and even the actual citizens in the area. The poem discusses the distinct characteristics of four of the most known Visayan festivals, namely Sinulog, Ati-Atihan, Dinagyang, and Masskara. All these showcase unique performances and extravagant costumes to show their love for the culture and tradition in their place. Fiestas are also a way for people to reconnect, enjoy, and spend time with their friends and family. All in all, the poem aims to capture the simplicity yet elegance of these joyous occasions.
